Halloween Swing Thing

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

Congratulations are in order for Dustin, who placed 3rd in CHAMPIONS Jack & Jill this past weekend at Swing Thing in Irvine. Understand that this is QUITE an honor–dancing at the Champion Level means you are dancing against some of the best dancers in the COUNTRY. And of course, this means that Dustin is one of the best dancers in the COUNTRY! And he’s teaching right here in San Luis Obispo!

Stop by on Wednesday to give him due props (that’s hipster speak for a pat on the back)…and perhaps you can stick around and learn some sweet moves from this talented young man!

Invite your friends

Don’t forget to invite your friends using the Free Dance Class cards given out. Remember, if two of your new-to-dancing friends redeem their Free Dance Class cards with your name on them, you get a free class yourself. What a deal! Need more cards? They’re available at the hall.

Dustin is back!

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

Dustin is back! And he’s bound and determined to show us some more stuff he has learned over the summer…hopefully it involves some coconuts with umbrellas! So you West Coasters and Hustlers get on down to the Hall to welcome back another of Linda’s award-winning instructors from his summer hiatus and he will begin a whole new series of patterns!

Website Redesign

Monday, October 9th, 2006

I know - the website hasn’t been working well recently! Recent server upgrades caused me to temporarily lose a lot of my work, but it should be fully restored now.

For now, the old lindadrake.com will redirect here until I get mailing list issues sorted out. Eventually, both lindadrake.com and slodance.com will point to the same website.

I’m also having it redesign so I can feature my photography as well. You’ll see an update here when my photos section gets added!

Hopefully this new design is easier to navigate as well. Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.

Notes and Rantings

Monday, October 9th, 2006

By not kowtowing to the cable company, I have been unable to keep up with the pop culture of my peers. Apparently there are these things called “TV shows” that transmit images through the air into these machines called “TVs” and that people sit on things called “couches” so that they can watch these things called “TV shows” on the things called “TVs”. I am simply shocked! I had no idea! A couple of days ago a friend of mine invites me over to her house to watch one of these “TV shows” on her “couch”: it was a “TV show” about people dancing….doubly shocked! They were good! They ARE good! Dang…that Emmitt Smith kid can dance! And that goofball Jerry Springer…!?! But then I thought, “Heck, anybody can do that…if they took classes from Linda!” I guess my point is this: watch the show on Tuesday night, but get your bee-hinds down to Linda’s classes on Wednesday and Thursday nights or else you’ll miss all the real fun! Vivica A. Fox ain’t got nothin’ on you!

INVITE YOUR FRIENDS

For those of you who attended classes last week, don’t forget to invite your friends using the Free Dance Class cards given out. Remember, if two of your friends redeem their Free Dance Class cards with your name on them, you get a free class yourself. What a deal! Need more cards? More are available at the hall.

DANCE EVENT OF THE WEEK

Did you, like me, have a great time at Linda’s dance the other night? Do you want some more? Here’s your chance: The Cal Poly Ballroom Dance Club will be hosting a dance this coming Saturday (10/7) at Cal Poly’s Chumash Auditorium. There will be a Beginning Cha Cha lesson at 7:30 followed by open dancing at 8:30. The floor space is huge and the cost is only $5. Come support the Cal Poly Ballroom Club! For a map and more information, see http://cpdst.org/content/view/54/59/

West Coasters: I know Boogie-by-the-Bay is coming up this weekend, but New Years is not that far off. See “Happenings” below to get info on the Palm Springs New Year’s Dance Camp!

The new 8-week TANGO series starts this week…if you pay in full up front, classes only cost $8.75 each ($70 total), or $10 each if you use a dance card, or $15 each if you pay each time you show up and not use a dance card. Hmmmm….I wonder which one is the better deal?!?
